Kirk Walsh Leads Charlotte Boys & Girls Clubs to State “Board Team of the Year” Award for Second Year in a Row.

Summary. Risk International Vice President leads The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Charlotte to prestigious award.

Fairlawn, Ohio, November 7, 2011 Kirk Walsh, Risk International Vice President and Director of Finance and current Chairman of the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Charlotte, was recently presented the North Carolina Board Team of the Year Award celebrating his advisory council as the best in the State. Mr. Walsh serves the advisory council of The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Charlotte, a volunteer role supported by Risk International.

This is the second year in a row that Mr. Walsh’s council has won the award, chosen from among the 42 Boys & Girls Club councils around North Carolina.

Mr. Walsh and others from The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Charlotte received the award in October at the annual North Carolina Area Council meeting in Raleigh.

“Risk International has long been a supporter of children’s charities, not just in treasure but in the time and talent of our people. We understand that involving people like Kirk in the urgent needs of the communities we serve is a part of our calling as a firm. We are proud of his work and that of his Charlotte-based volunteer team”, says Michael Davis, Risk International’s President and CEO.

The Greater Charlotte Advisory Council was chosen for the award because of their leadership during challenging times. In 2009, they successfully conducted an emergency finance campaign, raising $310,000 that prevented clubs from closing and services from being reduced. In 2010, they raised 32 percent more in their annual Positive Place for Kids Campaign.

In addition, the Council logs more than 15,000 volunteer hours per year, planning and executing successful community awareness events, such as the annual Family Fun Fest and annual Steak and Burger Dinner. In 2010, they celebrated 75 years of service to Greater Charlotte with a daylong festival where American Idol winner and former Boys & Girls Club member Ruben Studdard performed.

“I view my role at Risk International in two parts. One, we must serve customers exceptionally well to succeed as a firm and provide opportunities for our people. Two, we must serve sacrificially those who need us most in our community. As volunteers of the Boys and Girls Clubs, our team truly believes that the kids we serve don’t have a chance in life without us, and we relish the challenge”, says Mr. Walsh.
